As part of its digital transformation efforts, Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKÜ) brought entrepreneurs together with the “Ideathon: Idea Workshop” to develop its smart campus vision. At the end of the idea marathon, which took place in teams in accordance with the event theme, successful projects were rewarded.
HKÜ, which has stimulated technology-focused entrepreneurship in the region through the “Hackathons” it has held on various subjects, stated that it now aims to commercialize by producing projects in this field with students, academics, SMEs, and other stakeholders through the “Smart Campus”-themed “Ideathon.”
The opening speeches of the Ideathon, which began in the early hours, were delivered by HKÜ Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Edibe Sözen and HKÜ Faculty of Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Veysi İşler. In the panel moderated by Edibe Sözen, Prof. Dr. Çağrı Güngör connected to the program via Skype and talked about smart urbanism and smart campus initiatives. Samsung R&D Director Özcan Özay, Cisco Türkiye Sales Manager Yalçın Yıldırım, and Turkcell Smart Education Production Manager Ömer Özden delivered their presentations on digital transformation and smart technologies. At the end of the panel, plaques were presented to all the speakers.
ENTREPRENEURS DEVELOPED IDEAS FOR THE SMART CAMPUS
In the afternoon session of the program, participants developed ideas for technology-based solutions that would facilitate all processes of the university involving stakeholders such as Students-Management-Academics-Industry-Society, or solve existing problems, within the scope of the smart campus goal. At the event, participants with different talents and skills who were willing to work as a team worked in teams to produce projects that could be implemented in the Hasan Kalyoncu University Smart Campus Project and could include new and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data, virtual/augmented reality, blockchain, etc.
SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS WERE REWARDED
The entrepreneurs, who worked in groups with the Smart Campus theme, presented their new ideas and projects to the jury. At the Ideathon, which had participants from different cities, the successful projects that ranked in the top three were rewarded.
It was stated that, in order to realize the project proposals that emerged at the Ideathon, different support mechanisms (training, mentorship, prototyping, etc.) could be put into operation by HKÜ in the subsequent stages.
