Ninety software developers competed fiercely for the grand prize at “HKU Game Jam” (HGJ), a 48-hour game development marathon organized jointly by Hasan Kalyoncu University’s Gaming, Dynamic and IEEE student communities to contribute to the advancement of the gaming and software industry. This year, the theme of the HGJ event was set as “rising,” and the game developers who gathered at the HKU Student Center formed 17 teams that produced 13 games at the end of 48 sleepless hours.

Developing 13 Games in Such a Short Time Is a Great Achievement

Speaking after the presentations of the games produced at the end of the tiring and sleepless 48-hour marathon, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said: “Developing 13 games, some of which are ready to be offered to the end user, in such a short time as 48 hours is a great achievement. Even the games developed by our students who are still in the preparatory year are admirable. You are all tired but happy. You are experiencing the joy of creating together. Being able to work as a team was also extremely important. Today, in fact, you have all won. Under equal conditions, within the short time given, you developed games suited to the announced theme. I find all the games developed successful, and I believe some of them have the potential for commercial success. I congratulate all the game developers who took part in the event and wish them continued success in software development.”

The Top Three Teams Were Awarded

Following the speech, the teams ranking at the top were announced as a result of the jury’s evaluation. Gift vouchers were presented by HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli to the Ancrow team, which came in first; the Finishers team, which came in second; and the Volunteers team, which came in third.
